Packing advice
Packaging can be the most important part
of the process in getting the final product to your buyer.
It doesn't matter if you have the best made widgets in the world,
if they arrive damaged, they're no good to anyone and you may
lose any repeat orders, a customer and possibly your reputation.
Nothing spreads a reputation faster than bad news.
Here are just a few pieces of advice that can assist you in
your choices:-
- Choose the size of the package according to its content.
Under-filled boxes are likely to collapse; overloaded ones
may burst.
- Always use high quality materials for your shipments.
Consider strength, cushioning and durability when selecting
your wrapping supplies.
- Choose double or tri-walled cartons at all times - single
walled cartons like crisp boxes will offer little protection.
- Use a filler or cushioning materials for protection and
also to stop the package contents from moving. Filler can
be as inexpensive as shredded paper to more expensive but
robust solutions such as polystyrene chips or even expanding
foam.
- Place fragile goods in the centre of a package ensuring
they do no touch the sides. Your item should be well cushioned
on all sides. For very fragile items like glassware consider
using the box within a box method. This involves placing
the boxed items within a larger box that also has cushioning
or filler materials within it.
- Ensure liquids are stored in leak-free containers and
sealed with a plastic bag
- Use orientation (arrow-up) labels for non-solid materials.
- Repack your gifts properly. Many goods sold in attractive
packaging may not be suitable for shipping.
- When re-using a box remove all labels and stickers. Ensure
that the box is in good shape and not worn out.
- "Fragile" and "Handle with Care"
labels are never a substitute for careful packaging. They
are appropriate for information purposes only.
- Bad packaging may cause damage to surrounding items.
