Are eBay parcels causing too many problems for the Post Office ?

With the growing internet industry fuelled by on-line auction giant eBay the Post Office services are being stretched and services are coming under increasing pressure. Extended queuing, Pricing in Proportion and a catalogue of "non-postal" services being made available are driving the general public away. But what are the alternatives?

Andrew Hearn, Editor and Publisher of Essential Elvis Magazine, Worthing commented, "Mail order is a huge part of my business and obviously involves using the postal service. For many years I was delighted to work with the wonderful team at the sub post office. The service was professional and the staff were friendly. This ended when they were made to close against their wishes.

"I was forced to take over £12,000 of annual business to one of very few post offices in our area. The owner of the post office concerned made me feel very unwelcome, almost a nuisance. Although I didn't have a problem with most of the staff, I received the impression that the regular amounts of parcels were too much aggravation to an otherwise over-stretched service. The main post office will always oblige, but be prepared to lose your lunch hour.

"My business now enjoys the luxury of a franking machine and an excellent, flexible service from local courier GSG Cargo."
